Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about our ancient burial mound trails and heritage walks near Līvāni
Our burial mound trails range from 2 to 4 kilometers depending on which route you choose. We build in plenty of stops along the way—there are benches at viewpoints and we're flexible about pace. Most of our guests take about 2-3 hours total, including time to rest and take photos.
Jersika Hillfort focuses on medieval history—you'll explore the ruins of a 13th-century defensive structure and learn about Livonian architecture. The Daugava Bend route is more scenic and geological, featuring stunning river viewpoints and landscape formations. Pick Jersika if you're into history, or Daugava Bend if you prefer natural scenery with lighter educational content.
Comfortable walking shoes with good grip are all you really need. The trails aren't technical—they're well-maintained paths through grassland and forest. We recommend bringing water, sunscreen, and a light jacket, but you don't need any special hiking gear.
You get a knowledgeable local guide who shares historical and archaeological insights throughout the walk. We provide interpretation at key sites—burial mounds, the hillfort ruins, viewpoints—and answer your questions along the way. Tours typically include time for photography and questions. We don't provide meals, but there are cafes in Līvāni before or after your trail experience.
Most of our main trails have gentle slopes and stable ground, making them suitable for seniors with moderate mobility. If you use a walking stick or have specific concerns, let us know when booking—we can suggest the best route or arrange alternative viewpoint visits. We're honest about what's realistic for different fitness levels.
May through September offers the best weather and longest daylight hours. Spring brings wildflowers, summer is warmest, and autumn offers beautiful foliage. Winter trails are possible but can be muddy or icy. We run guided tours year-round, so check current conditions when you book.
